21 Taxidermy Fails That Are Both Funny and Terrifying

Taxidermy is not the most pleasant of practices in general, but when the taxidermist is an amateur, things can start to get really ugly.

If you want a good laugh there is a twitter account called Crap Taxidermy which is dedicated to showcasing the worst work from this scene.

You may have seen some real life examples of taxidermy when visiting museums, or even at a friends house whose dad is an enthusiast and has “dead animals” all over the walls. Most likely, these were done to a high standard, unlike the efforts below.

The word “taxidermy” is derived from the Greek words taxis and derma. Taxis means “arrangement”, and derma means “skin” (the dermis). The word taxidermy translates to “arrangement of skin”.

Taxidermy is practiced mainly on vertebrates (mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and less commonly on amphibians) but can also be done to larger insects and arachnids. Museums use taxidermy as a method to record species, including those that are extinct and threatened, in the form of study skins and life-size mounts. Taxidermy is sometimes also used as a means to memorialize pets.

Now, let’s take a look at some of our favorite examples of bad taxidermy, which are awful and hilarious at the same time.
