Adorable Dog Walks Into Texas Police Station To Report Himself Missing

When this friendly dog ended up lost and couldn’t find his way home, the quick thinking canine made his way to his local police station to let them know he needed help.

He showed up in the early hours of the morning and took the officers at Odessa Police Department by surprise, signalling that he was lost and needed to get back home.

There were several officers on shift at the station to greet him, and according to Sergeant Rusty Martin he didn’t seem scared or in any discomfort, and was very forthcoming in his request for help.

Martin told The Dodo,

“We were all excited to have him in the building. We had a tennis ball and threw it in the lobby for a bit. Everyone loved on him.”

As the dog charmed the officers with his playful nature, they spotted that his ID tag had fallen off his collar, so they contacted animal control to send a crew out to check for a microchip on the animal.

However, by the time the crew arrived the dog had already decided to leave the station and attempt to make his own way home.

“He ran out just as quick as he came in,” Martin said. “The owner responded the next day [to say that] it was his dog and he had returned home. He lives about a mile from the station.”.

Martin made a light-hearted post about the unexpected incident on social media, saying that the dog’s behavior made him a perfect candidate for the work they carry out there. “I was impressed,” Martin said. “He may just be cut out for this work.”

Martin wrote on his post on Facebook:

“We’re thinking he wanted to apply for a K-9 position after eliminating a Lassie type situation. He was given lots of love and attention until he decided it was time for him to leave. He let himself out and after an exhausting search was not found. We were relieved to learn he safely returned to his owner. Chico is welcome back anytime.”
